About Ms. Debbie

American Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructor

I have been teaching people of all ages, infants to adults, to swim for about 40 years.  I believe in the fun that learning to swim can bring while being focused on the safety associated with aquatic activity. I am an American Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructor and follow the safety guidelines set forth by ARC.  It is my goal to help everyone feel comfortable and confident in the water.

testimonial
We are so grateful to have private swim lessons with Ms. Debbie! My daughters are 4 and 2 and a half, and Ms. Debbie is so sweet and patient with them. She places a huge emphasis on safety, while still making swimming really fun for both my girls! After only a few lessons, my 4 year old daughter was excited to show us how she could dive for toys, jump into the pool, and float. We have been amazed at her quick progress with Ms. Debbie, and the girls always ask when their next lesson will be!

When Jackson started swim lessons with Debbie at the age of 4, he was afraid to even put his face in the water. With her patience, consistency, and experience teaching, he is now able to jump into the water, float on his back, flip over, and swim to the edge of the pool. Throughout his lessons with Debbie, safety has always been a main priority. We highly recommend Debbie and are blessed to have Jackson learn from her.

When my son started swimming lessons with Ms. Debbie, he was afraid to move around and would barely put his face in the water. With each lesson, he became more and more comfortable, and now, not only does he float, but he goes completely underwater and will even jump in from the side! During a recent lesson, he said, "Ms. Debbie look at this!", and proceeded to float and roll over in the water. Wow! He has done a complete 180 and it's all because of Ms. Debbie. She has been a God-send. My little one is on the spectrum, so it is hard to find instructors who are patient and understand his needs. I do not doubt that he will be swimming laps soon. Ms. Debbie has a gift and I'm so glad that we found her swim school! We LOVE her! I highly recommend anyone, no matter what age, sign up for classes today!
Ms Debbie loves to swim with you. Learning to get to your float is a life saving skill that she believes strongly in teaching every student.

TECHNIQUES/SKILLS

Age-specific support for every stage of instruction

swiminfant

Infants and Toddlers

At this level young children do not always possess the fine motor skills to be able to coordinate all of the components of swimming. Breathing correctly while using your arms and legs together in constant motion is a huge task for a little one.

My objective at this level is to start with the basics of learning to get water in their face without it scaring them and learning breathing techniques. I also feel that for safety and security, learning to float is a primary component I believe in. I want them to feel safe and secure in the water.

I require certain diapers and diaper covers for children that are not potty trained. Alvababy is a disposable diaper and Bisenkid is the diaper cover. Both can be purchased from Amazon.

If your child does not have adequate coverage and requires that the pool has to be drained and or sanitized, there is a $250 charge for that.

Children

Many children have a fear of the water and making them feel confident and secure is very important. Swimming is a building block with one technique added to another as they learn. Through this progression I teach how to combine breathing, with kicking and arm strokes. Other techniques through the process include floating, diving and learning to get in and out of the water safely.

Adults

Many times, adults don’t swim because of some traumatic event in their lives that created a fear of water. They are very eager to learn and want to swim and I really respect wanting to learn as an adult. It is easier for adults to think through the whole process, and I start by explaining the dynamics and basic relationship that your body has with water i.e., floating and arm and leg technique. It is exciting to see them progress and become more comfortable in the water.

Why DEB'S SWIM SCHOOL?

An excellent learning experience

Deb’s swim school is designed to be a place for anyone regardless of age to come to learn to swim. I try to provide a fun and loving environment while teaching the all-important need for water safety in all environments.
I teach safety tips whether you are at the pool, the lake, the beach or anywhere there is a body of water that you might find yourself in. Swimming, skiing, snorkeling, fishing and other water sports can provide great fun and entertainment. However, knowing the correct way to enjoy these activities can increase your fun and decrease your anxiety.
I look forward to seeing you in the water soon!!!!!
